History

In 1977, the Institute of Food Science and the Department of Technology and Hygiene of Human Nutrition were merged, creating the Institute of Human Nutrition. Four years later, in 1981, the Institute of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Food Analysis (director prof. dr hab. Stanisław Stawicki) was separated from the Institute of Human Nutrition, with two departments: Food Microbiology (head prof. dr hab. Stanisław Stawicki) and Biochemistry and Food Analysis (head prof. dr hab. Janusz Skupin). An experienced teacher in the field of biochemistry and food analysis, with particular emphasis on instrumental analysis, was doc. dr hab. Andrzej Giec.

In 1991, after the reorganization of the Faculty, the Institute of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Food Analysis was transformed into the Department of Biochemistry and Food Analysis.
In the years 1991-2003, the head of the Department of Biochemistry and Food Analysis was prof. dr hab. Marek Gogolewski.
In the years 2003-2009, the head of the Department was prof. dr hab. Jerzy Ryszard Warchalewski,
and in the years 2009-2013, prof. dr hab. Eleonora Lampart-Szczapa.
Since 2013, the head of the Department has been prof. UPP dr hab. Dorota Piasecka-Kwiatkowska.
In 2005, the Faculty of Food Technology changed its name to the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition. Since the beginning of the Faculty, the Department of Biochemistry and Food Analysis has been located in the building at ul. Mazowiecka 48
